In 2014 Sindy Habib and a veterinary colleague set out to launch an ice cream business. Sindy learned to love the idea of homemade ice cream from her father who catered events with his ice cream creations during her childhood. Sindy wanted to distinguish their business by featuring three different product lines- Ice Cream, Italian Ice, and Crème Ice- all handcrafted in the store in small batches. Sonny's Amazing Italian Ices & Creams opened its doors in January 2016 in Sherman Oaks, CA.

 

The original partner left the shop, leaving Sindy and Matt Hoch as owners/operators of the business. Matt and Sindy graduated high school together in Brooklyn, NY and after many years they are now a couple. Sindy is a practicing veterinarian and Matt is a retired public school principal. Though their professional backgrounds do not directly lend themselves to owning and operating a retail ice cream business, their passion for working with the public has led to a most satisfying enterprise for them and their customers. Recently Sindy and Matt have re-branded the store, which is now known as Sonny's Handcrafted Ice Cream & Italian Ice.
